What is the difference between Delta 36-725 sold in Lowes and Delta 36-5000 ?
The second one is almost twice as expensive. I only see a better fence and slightly different motor. What else ?

so the one piece rail costs $500 ? There should be more to it. Rails are actually very cheap.

I can not say this about your saws, but here is the deal with big box stores, and name brands that only sell through dealerships, John Deere is an example, HD sells John Deere items, they are not the exact item you can by from a JD dealer. There is quality and feature differences, so you cant compare or under price a dealer with the same product.

Having worked for John Deere dealers. The JD items are the same quality and same features. They don’t run a separate line to manufacture for the box store.

Go to lowes and compare them for yourself. There may be other differences, the price is the biggest. 36-725, 600.00
36-5000 800.00.

- Bruce, Boise, ID, confused, friend has a marketing research business, contracted by HD to get JD products in, JD said they needed to protect there dealers, thats what they came up with, that makes more scene to me then throwing there dealers with more over head to the wolves. Same thing with other major products, stoves, washers ,driers and frigs. Lowes does the same.
A friend geek only buys high end, a few years ago bought a Sony Bravio Flat screen, X size X $, 2 months later I am at WalMart same TV 100$ less, called him to gloat, ses pull up the model number it is WWWXXXYYY, his is WWWYYYZZZ,searches it, WM has less inputs and out puts, some copper instead of gold contacts, Made for WM at there specs to sell cheaper to the unknowing eye.

The 36-5000 adds a 15 amp motor, an extra 10” extension table, and the one piece front rail. There’s also that extra $300.

The rip fence on the 36-5000 is also different, it has a double site glass for the rail tape measure and is micro-adjustable.

What is a double site glass?

- hotbyte

The site glass is the clear plastic window indicator on the T bar with a line in it for setting the fence at the desired distance from the blade using the tape measure on the rail. The 36-725 only has one site glass so the tape measure needs to be on the rail dead-on or the measurement from the left side of the blade is not correct and you can’t adjust the single site glass to correct the error. The single site glass can only be adjusted to be correct for one side or the other of the blade. The 36-5000 has a site glass for the right and a site glass for the left so you can adjust for any misalignment of the tape measure on the rail for cuts on either the left side or right side of the blade.
