I am interested in building a dining table but the plans call for birch plywood table top i would like to use cherry or some other hardwood is there a procedure for this type of project

There are a lot of methods to accomplish this. Breadboard ends or, simply edge gluing and leaving the ends uncovered are two.
You must account for wood movement if the top is solid wood.
