I got a old cedar chest out of the attic of my great uncle, and sanding down the varnish is clogging up my sandpaper and not removing easily. What is a better way to get this clear coat of so i can sand down the wood and reseal it?

Strip!!! Or sand, APITA either way!!!! Just have to suck it up.

Card or cabinet scraper maybe? As conifur says, no easy way.
