Just thought that I would let everyone know that my wife has just had knee surgery to fix a torn meniscus and drain a cist and clean up some arthritis. Surgery went well. She is now home recouping for 4-6 weeks. Looks like I will be spending some quality time in the shop when we get on each others nerves . LOL They are talking replacement in approximately 3-4 years.

Rick, my best to your wife and wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery. As for whats down the road “don’t put the cart before the horse”.Perhaps some quality time in the shop may be better used to keep from getting on each others nerves.

Rick, I hope things go will for her. It is going to be a tough nursing assignment but I am sure you will be up to it. Just try to have patience with her. :)

I had a similar surgery several years ago. I always thought people saying their joints hurt with the change in weather were just spoofin’ but it’s true. Mine feels like it’s been hit with a hammer at times, other times it feels swollen. Therapy was a booger. Sure was good to have it fixed tho…. Hope she does well and, good luck to you in the shop!!

My wife is going to the surgeon tomorrow for the same thing. She has been out of work & can barely walk. I’ve been hiding in the shop myself. Hope your wife has a quick recorvery.

Greetings Rick: I can tell your wife all she needs to know about knee replacements. I”ve had both of mine done about a year and a half ago. I had full replacements on every knee joint on both. I’ve hated every minute of it since then. Even after all this time, my knees still hurt. I had “bone on bone” rubbing and gnawing each other—I really didn’t have a choice at the time… wish I had my old knees back… Tell your wife to put it off as long as she can. It’s no fun, and you have to go through a lot of therapy and get on this machine that bends your knees about 3-5 hrs. a day to keep scar tissue from building up…. it really sucks big time…......

I had that same surgery about 4 yrs ago, I am being told now it is time do a total knee replacement. That is being put off because I am not sure I want to go that route. I spent (read wasted) money on therapy to try and make it feel better. That did not work. I am willing to wait to see if something improved comes down the pike.
Good luck to your wife.

I guess I was lucky when I had my meniscus cut out about 10 years ago. I was walking on it in two days, but it took a year to fully recover. I haven’t had a problem since. Wife had shoulder surgery this past October to shorten all the soft tissues in her arm so it would stop falling out of her shoulder. She was too limber.

It slowed her down, but she was better one-handed in the kitchen that I was with two. LOL
She’s pretty much recovered but is not suppose to raise that arm above her waist—and her left (surgical) arm is now shorter than her right.

I suspect your wife will do fine… she’ll need some time to heal… and she’ll probably become a little impatient about it all. Wish her the best.

I’ve heard that when we get to this age this is the type of stuff we talk about?

My best to you and your wife as well. I went through reconstruction on my left knee a while back. Not fun rehabbing a knee. Take good care of her.
