Topic tags/keywords: planes stanley bailey handyman sale question jig plane

I have a few hand planes that I will be selling on craigslist or ebay.

I don’t think any of them are collector’s items, but it would be nice to know what years they might have been made so I am not deceiving anyone when I try to sell them.

I hope that it is ok to post this request and apologize in advance if this is not ok.

Thanks.

Stanley bailey #5

Then I have a Stanley #3 as well:

Then I have a #3 Handyman, which I have come to learn are not that popular / good:

And then I have an edge plane:

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me. Again, I doubt that any of them are real classics, but if there was one in there that was particularly valuable, then I would sure like to know.

I would say they were all made after 1962. They have little or no collector value, and are not sought after as much as the older planes as users. They still have some value and I hope you can get them into the hands of someone who will use them.

@ Don:

Thank you so much for the response.

Yes, that was my assumption, that they were probably all later / non-collector models.

They do tend to work well. I am not particularly skilled at planing, but I was able to do some fairly decent work on softwoods and occasionally had some ok work with Cherry or some other hardwoods.

Thanks again.

Some parts of that #5 look older than the lever cap. The solid “Y” adjuster, the lateral adjusting lever, and the blade definitely look pre-type 16. The lever cap looks like type 17 or newer.

What are you asking for the #3?

25$ including shipping is all I could give for it. My interest is mild. I have 24 hours until I know if I will win a similar plane on eBay before I could make a descision yes or no anyway.

Just looked at prices for #3s on eBay. Wow. If you got 40$ including shipping I’d be highly surprised. The listings might be high but you’ll notice there are a bunch and no one is bidding.

Message me yes or no if you don’t mind.

I would purchase the number 3 and number 5 off you together. I am looking to get into hand tool work. PM me and maybe we can work something out.

@ste6168

Maybe you can send me a message first? Lumberjokcs won’t let me send a message without having five posts on the forum first… and I don’t really fell like spamming the forums with posts just to be able to pm someone.

Have your say...
