Topic tags/keywords: milling bandsaw

Highway cut down some trees in front of the house. Asked them to leave a coue logs in my yard. Was curious if I could cut some up on my bandsaw. Simple sled of 1/2 plywood with wedges hot glued to hold log. Seemed to work just fine. Testing 22% right now. Will see how it goes. I have nothing invested except a scrap piece of plywood and about 20 minutes of time.

Thanks for the compliments.

- Michaelmjc

This small stack is about 1” thick by about 32” long with widest board being 8”.

Just a test run to see if I could do it. It is already down to 14%. Thinking I will build supported table extensions to help hold weight of longer logs, thinking 4-5’ will be all I want to handle by myself.

Hi Rick,
Nice amount of wood and it’s free. What bandsaw are you using? Marc

Marc, I have a Rikon 10-325 14” bandsaw. Seemed to handle the job just fine.
The highway crew left me 4 logs 12-16’ long, 12-15” in diameter. Will take some time to cut them up this winter and see what I end up with.
