Shopsmith Mod.500 ,frozen Quill

You might want to go to the ShopSmith forums at www.shopsmith.net/forums and see if you get more responses. I own the 510 and don’t know how it compares to the 500 but I’d try to get access to the power head through the pull off cover (if the 500 has one) on the back side of the unit and see inside. This might give you better access for WD40 to free up the quill. It may be that the locking mechanism is frozen and you will need to break it free. I stored mine in an unheated barn in NH for several years and never had any problem with the quill but that doesn’t mean much.
