Lately, I’ve been thinking about maybe putting some money and look into getting a lathe. I would be turning mostly small bowls, pens, and small table/chair legs. Since my shop is basically full, I’m definitely going with something smaller, like a bench top but I’m not sure. Been looking around and have found 2 that I like the most. I’ve been keeping track on Craigslist and one very rarely shows up, now and then there is one but its usually to big or located so far away. The 2 I have found are the Grizzly G0624 or the Rikon Mini, when I add a bed extension the price comes out to around the same. I haven’t looked at the Grizz in person but I looked at the Rikon at Woodcraft last weekend. Plus the Woodcraft close to me is having the “Intro to the Lathe” class next month.

Ive had the Rikon mini for several years now and love it! When I bought mine and got it home found out that the wrench for the included face plate was missing. I called Rikon and the guy was very nice and sent me a new one in the mail with no questions or hassles. Would buy another Rikon product in a minute!

Too bad you didn’t start thinking about it a few weeks ago, Rockler was selling the Excelsior for $199 and then gave you a $100 Gift Card so it was really $99. Even though I never had the inclination to do turning I picked one up, just couldn’t pass up the deal and now I can turn table legs. Someday… It’s the same as the Jet, Delta, Power, Grizzly, etc. they just paint them different colors. They were still selling it for $199 after that but I think it ended today and now it’s back up to $249.
