It,s 5.30 pm manila time and the fire works have started in earnest. The idea here is to make as much noise as possible so with any luck the guy down the sreet won,t get so drunk as to let off a full clip from his armalite like he did last year.

From last years newpaper

“Supt Nicanor Bartolome stated that 38 persons were injured when they were hit by stray bullets during the New Year revelry. He said that they arrested a total of 26 persons who had fired their guns, causing the injuries—nine in Metro Manila, six each in Region 6 and Region 12 and five in Calabarzon (provinces of Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal and Quezon). Bartolome added that no police personnel used their firearms to welcome the New Year.”

An interesting tradition! LOL! At New Year’s it is usually too cold here to be partying outside, and firing of a gun inside is considered rude in most circles…not counting my brother in law’s preference for firing his shotgun into the back yard from inside his kitchen LOL!
