I’ve been asked to create a childrens bed but the owner is worried about cleaning the bed after the child gets sick. Do you know if applying a coat of poly will seal the wood so that all the parent has to do is wipe down the bed?

Poly will work just fine. It is not affected by water or chemicals once it is cured. It will also protect the surface of the wood from abrasion and impacts.

you may have intended this, but if it will be in a kids room, more than one coat of poly would be better.

If the kids are anything like mine, you may want to put a layer of steel on it LOL

I would recommend several layers of poly.
