I am currently in the design phase of a makeup case/cabinet for my wife. I am thinking of going with a figured maple for the front, and walnut for the case itself. To get a continual grain pattern on the front I was thinking of veneering an MDF panel with a bookmatched veneer that will give enough coverage for all the drawer fronts, and the side panels. I have never done any veneering before, and am curious if this will be doable, and if MDF is a good enough substrate for the veneer.

Also, does anyone have a good source of veneer that they would recommend?

Here is a early rendition I have mocked up in Sketchup.

MDF works great for veneering, as well as any other type of homogenous press boards. I am not certain as to where you could buy veneer,I would check probably the intenet for wood handlers in your area.
