Topic tags/keywords: hand plane stanley sweetheart

I just bought a used Stanley Sweetheart 12-136 #4 smoothing plane on ebay. I will be in receipt of it by 11/19. In the mean time does anyone have any tips on tuning/adjusting it? Any advice on pitfalls of which to be aware would also be helpful.

It’s hard to give advice w/o knowing the condition of the plane. But one skill you will need, is knowing how to sharpen the iron. If you are not familiar with that process start educating yourself and acquire the needed supplies for sharpening if you don’t already have them.

I have a Veritas MK II system. As far as condition it appears to be in like-new condition.

That plane should make a good start for you. Here’s some great information from a fellow LJ:
The information in the article mentioned in this link is another great summary of how to tune up a plane, but now I can’t find the link to the pdf of the article that I downloaded.
