Topic tags/keywords: price buying lumber pound walnut

I found this auction on Craigs list.
Don’t quite know what to make of it or how much to offer. I suppose the wood is dry assuming they haven’t puffed up the ad. Googling suggests ~3.3lbs/bd.ft so maybe I’ll go up to 1.25 lb = $4 bd.ft.

(Approx. 35,000 bd ft)
Lumber Air Dried & in Storage for 50 years
Saw Mill Cut Into 2 & 3” Slabs also 1” & 2”
1×6—2’ Planed weigh’s 8 lb

NOTE: Lumber will be sold by the # (pound)

(50 Years in Storage)
(3) Pile equal 27,000 bd ft plus lumber in out buildings approx. 8,000 ft
All in 12’ or larger 1”, 2” & 2 Inch Thick
300/400’ Aromatic Cedar (1 Pallet)

Looks like a sweet auction minus paying by the pound for lumber, figured they’d just sell it as a lot of break it off in smaller lots since I doubt many people would have the need for that much walnut unless it’s a big shop. Don’t know the prices of walnut where you’re from but I can get it for $4bf all day long and even down to $2bf kd stuff, def wouldn’t pay what it costs to get it else where, would def want a deal.

A lot of seller will take into account of the actual usable lumber to calculate BF.
Might be OK, if you are allow to pick through it.

Walnut prices are way up. Logs in some areas are selling for $8/bf in the log, not even sawn yet. If you can buy it for $2.00 per BF, let me know where, cause I want to get a tractor trailer load of it.

Following up on this. On aution day the entire 27K bd. ft. of lumber was GONE!!! He said that someone bought the entire amount and hauled it away on a tractor trailer. I also heard from someone else that he moved it somewhere else and was selling it piecemeal as people wanted it. I wandered around the build for 20 min. really wanting to buy something but didn’t see anything worth spending the time and $$ to bid on.

Have your say...
