Stopped by Ace, today. Saw a sign in the door: buy the 6” Irwin SL300 Quick-Grip clamp for $12.00, and get a mail in rebate good for six bucks back.

Final price, then: six bucks.

Good on purchases through 1/2/2010.

I got two. Why not?

NOTE: The rebate—I just noticed—says one per item, per household, per person, but … um … my brother actually bought one of them…. ;-)

Incidentally, I got my Ridgid R4330 thickness planer up and running, today. Maybe the coolest tool in the shop :-)

Good bargain Neil. I bought 8 of the new longest Irwin clamps a little over a year ago and I really love them and I find that I’m using them all the time. Enjoy your new planer and don’t forget to turn it off for Christmas!

I bought a couple of those for the max price a while back. I have 4 of the old Quick-Grip clamps when they were made by Vise-Grip, they are a little more agile I think. But the lead carpenter on our remodel stuck two of them on some 18 foot boards of jatoba to keep them from warping before the final phase of our remodeling. They are stored on some supports I put on the beams in the garage for long lumber 20 years ago or more. They are used for baseboard radiator covers. Those radiators think they are hot s… with those jatoba covers, let me tell yah. The contractor and carpenters call our house the jatoba house. It has a lot of it and it is going to get more.

So, knowing the cost of that lumber, I just bought two of the Irwins to replace them, cause I use that small size clamp all the time, somewhere.

Made some light sawdust today, doing a warmup project, a small portable tote to store measurement stuff on my project tables etc. It is gluing up now, still have a few pieces to nail and glue on. I’ll do a blog item on it and an old one that always sits on my RAS table behind the fence. Those saws are cutting like champs. No chipout whatsoever on the plywood I am using. The TS was awesome, what a difference the enhancements have made.

Have a good one…..............
