Topic tags/keywords: hand plane stanley bailey patent date type

I’m thinking of buying an old Stanley Bailey Jack plane. I asked the seller which type it is and he told me he didn’t know. I asked him to tell me what the patent date is and he told me there isn’t one anywhere. How can I tell which type it is?

Here are 2 place to search. Not all types had a patent date on the plane. Frog style, lateral lever type, front tote style and other things all go into figuring out which type.
These 2 sites should get you somewhere close.
