I need to make a Rabbet for box bottom and top,I don’t have a TS,Thinking I could do it with my #45 but all I have is a 1/4 plough iron, the width will work,Can I do it with a #45? and can I do it with that iron or should I look on the bay to find a different Iron?

If you have a router table and rabbiting bits, you can do it on there….Just depends on what size rabbit you need….

I am going to the make the logical assumption that, since you posted in hand tools, you wish to work with non-powered tools.

THIS post should be of great interest to you.

Like Chuck said, the 45 will work. Just set the fence to be at the left side of the blade and set your depth stop to how deep you want the rabbet. If you need a wider rabbet, just reset your fence and plow another groove next to the first one.
