Good Afternoon Guys!

New to the forum and just wanted to say hello and I am excited to learn a lot from the knowledge in this forum. I’m only 24 and have been doing trim carpentry and cabinets since I was 14. I think I know a lot but there is much to learn. Anywho, I was wondering if anyone has worked with sinker cypress? I have been building with it for about 6 months and love the colors and grain it puts out. Just curious?

Thanks for your time!

Welcome to Lumberjocks. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

When I joined, I considered myself midlevel. Quickly realized that I was pretty much a beginner. But I have loved the journey.

Only had a little of the sinker cypress. Not enough to really form an opinion.

Never used sinker cypress, but am aware of it.
When I joined, I was wondering why I didn’t join years earlier.
Even though I had been woodworking for many years, (sold my first pieces in 1971), found out that there are things I could not imagine existed, and have been very happy to be on this site to learn from some of the best on the planet.
Welcome!!

Wish I could get my hands on some reclaimed cypress.
What are you using it to build?

Here are some pics of the Round Table. The only finish is a clear polyurethane. That purple piece on the underside looked like a trash piece so I just threw it on the bottom to help support everything. Ended up being one of the prettiest pieces I have seen in my stack of sinker.

I’ve worked with a good bit of old growth but it looks pretty close to what you have. I love it. Worked with a but if pecky cypress also.

Yessir! I love some pecky cypress. I have found not as many people share that same love. But the ones that do love it OOH and AHH over it! Those drawer fronts look awesome! You give that pecky a good sanding and those groves feel amazing. A bit intricate and time consuming but definitely worth it.
