Topic tags/keywords: question solicitation policy

I received a message on my profile from a new member here advising me that I could get all these nice woodworking plans at a third party site. I looked at the profile and looks like he has been posting well over 800 messages within a few hours. Here is the profile – http://lumberjocks.com/RichardCatledge. Is there a policy against such solicitations? To me, it is one of those things that can turn a great site into a less than positive experience.

Regards,

David

Let Martin know. He usually deals with this sort of thing very quickly.

Oh-oh. I see entering a pictured validation code when posting on the horizon. I could write code to walk these web pages and do exactly what that guy is doing, pulling everyones profile and adding a comment, just as easy with a PM.

He’s doing 6 per minute and ain’t gonna stop until he has everyone or is stopped. That’s code doing it, plain and simple.

He is, of course, hiding behind a registration proxy. Give the proxy a call, and let him know that the real owner of www.woodworking4home.com is a scoundrel:

Yeah I PM’d Martin too but did Martin stop it or did the spammer take a break. I’ve seen Martin delete the stuff and the account before but this is still there. At least for the moment.

Neil, the guy doing the spamming isn’t necessarily the guy who’s domain it is. And even if he hired him to do it he can deny it and if there’s no proof I doubt any action can be taken.

At the very least we should continue to publicly shame people who use LumberJocks for commercial purposes without paying for advertising.

I guess the good thing about things like this is that it reinforces what I love about this site. It iis an online community that folks here take pride in. When a spammer comes in, annoyance doesn’t come from the inconvenience but the fact that someone is littering our yard and spitting in the face of the Administrators here. We take that personally and work together to remedy that. Makes me proud to be a member here.

Can the moderators remove the postings that this spammer did. I so dislike spam that I don’t even want his posting to stay on my profile.

Or is there some way I can delete his spam from my profile?

Mike

It looks like the spam was marching through alphabetically – I din’t get hit with anything. Maybe I’ll change my name to zzzzzsras ;)

Nope not alphabetically. At first I thought by walking the Jocks pages but that didn’t look right at first till I realized it started with the newest members and worked/walked towards the oldest members.
