Greetings: Like a lot of you on the “jocks” I decided to make a few cuttin’ boards for Christmas gifts. I had made a couple a few years back, so along with those, I made several mug holders. Back to the cuttin boards:
I got them all done, and it was time for the mineral oil treatment. So I’m rummaging through the cabinets, found the bottle, headed to the shop, and proceeded to “rub it in”. Ok—things are good. Followed all the necessary steps (you know the drill), set them aside to dry in the other part of the shop, where no dust could get to them. Ok—started cuttin out more wood for other things to make. Anyway, after a few days of applying the m.o., wiping, more oil, wiping, well you get the picture. So I get them all done, right. Oh man, they look good!! Just as I was putting the oil away, I looked at the label. WHAT, WHAT does it say?
Oh my lord, I just put m.o. that said: INTESTINAL LUBRICANT: used for LAXATIVE, RELIEF OF CONSTIPATION, and also for SKIN MOISTURIZER. Geeeez—where did this come from? Then I remembered.
I had to have hemmiroid surgery a few years ago, and the hospital gave me a bottle to take home to mix with orange juice to” keep things moving smoothly”- yea right. The first few days, and you’ll be screaming for mercy. You can’t drink enough of that mixture for relief !!!!!!!!. Well now—- what do I do? Too late, it’s on.
So here’s the question: Everytime someone uses these boards, are they going to wind up with the “runs”?, or possibly use it as a relief for sunburn? I think I’ll just keep quite, and never mention what happened !!!! All comments welcome. Keep on keeping on. Yours in woodworking—just call me “slick”.

That’s what mineral oil is…A laxative.
From what I read the small amounts that could possibly transfer to the food will not give any adverse effect on the consumer. I think you are Ok.

There isn’t enough on the boards to cause any problems….but that is a funny story….if they work though…you might be able to market them for folks with slow moving drains….LOL….You can use a slogan like – Use our board today…and keep rotor rooter away…...ROFL

You guys are cracking me up!!!!! I can’t read for laughing. In all honesty though, this really happened this morning. I’ve just never tken the time to read the label.

reggiek: I like the idea of the marketing factor. Do you think I could “move’em”? lol

Roger: You’re killing me!!! lol. You sound like that guy on t.v.—the one that died!! Can’t hardly beat a package deal like that. Get two holes cleaned for the price of one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol lol lol. Roger, let’s go into script writing. We might make more money than selling these dumb boards.

Rick
Like others have said M O is a laxative and commonly used on cutting boards. So it’s not a problem.

Hey guys, you have got to give it to Rick – he’s a sly old devil.
Do you remember him telling us about his wedding anniversary the other day???
Well, here are 2 quotes from Rick’s posting:

”I’m taking her to McDonalds for a Big Mac, and she’s taking me to Lowes to buy me a gallon of mineral spirits!!!!!! ”and ”I’m not telling what the m.s. is gonna be used for. But I have plans!”

His post smells like a cover up for an ulterior motive. He never did expand on his “big night” anniversary aftermath did he? So now he comes up with this lame post about oil on cutting boards when it is obvious he used too much oil that night and now has a personal problem.

Yes Rick, this has all the makings of a Sit Com …. if you get my drift.

It’s fine. You put the right stuff on it. Not enough will come off on the food to affect anyone with laxative issues. This is the reason it is so safe for cutting boards because it is approved for human intake.

Rick, you can give one of those boards a test run (no pun intended); use it and see if it affects you. For constipation, a few cc is necessary to relieve it.
