Topic tags/keywords: charity heifer international giving to needy families

Well, I realize that times are pretty tough for many of you but I thought I’d share some insight on a charity that I have given to in the past and presently still active with and feel that it is worthy of mention.

Heifer International is an organization that helps families around the globe (including the USA) by showing them how to raise live stock or other self sustaining food sources such as bees. They provide the animal(s) and educate them on proper husbandry techniques and are able to consume the milk, meat or honey, and then sell what they do not eat to purchase other essentials, including clothing and basic school fees to send their children to school. Part of the program is to also share future generations of the animals to give to other families in their community. Thus, the chain of self sustinance is continued and all can prosper by receiving a source of good protein and start a means of income. This is not just a hand out, it’s an opportunity for them to help themselves and to share with others.

Please take a look at their website and if you are able, a small donation of $20. will pay for a family to receive chicks that could mean dinner and an education for a family in need. You can also select larger live stock and brag that for Christmas “I bought a goat!”. Your friends and family will think you’re nuts, but we know better!

This is a good charity.
I’ve seen their work in East Africa.

Imagine how much more precious a gift here would be- compared to that tie or socks.

It’s so easy to complain about prices being high, but most of us have quite a lot of “stuff” that we really don’t need or want. And, yes, there are lots of things we still want and think we need. But when you think of $20. helping a family actually survive, fighting hunger and illiteracy at the same time with a program that also shares the wealth, how much more can you get for $20. elsewhere?

Come on everyone! You’ll feel GREAT for participating and know that you’ve done a really good deed.
