I was wondering if there is some way to access a “mobile” version of the site, that is one formatted for use on something like the iPhone or iPod touch. This is usually how I access this site and some others. Some places will automatically reformat for the small screen, while a few others require you to type in a slightly different URL. Anything like that available here, or any possibility of turning that feature “on” at the hosting site? These reformatted versions of site are much easier to read on the small screen.

Thanks for reading.

I agree Lifesaver I too access the site with my iPhone as well when I’m away from home and it is rather large, it would be great to shrink it down.

It has been almost two years since I posted this question, and use of mobile devices in general has only continued to climb. I see sites with much smaller user bases offering mobile versions or even stand-alone apps for mobile devices.

Also it the past two years, it seems that something has changed that makes the site even more sluggish to load on a mobile browser. I suspect it has to do with changes in how ads are displayed.

So, I am wondering, are their any plans to better support mobile devices?

The site just needs to be mobile friendly. It’s nearly unusable on my normal sized phone. Probably easier said than done.

It most certainly is easier said than done. There is no mobile version of the site in place, and I presume nothing is scaffolded to help jump start development, meaning it may require starting from scratch. Definitely not a weekend job.

Oh, and lets not get started asking for an app. A mobile version of the site is a shorter stretch than compared to an app which is a whole different beast to tackle.
