Hello all. I am in talks with someone for a Jet 8” Jointer 230 V 2 HP 1Ph JJ-8CS. The photos appear to indicate the unit is in fairly good condition (I will have a chance to verify this and that it works appropriately). I did find out that the blades are in need of sharpening. The price we are at right now is $500. Here are my questions:

The unit appears to be green but may be blue, I can’t tell. I’ve been able to find out that these were the first 2 colors of 4 in the history of Jet tools. Does anyone know anything about this particular period of JET tools? I can’t seem to find much out there for a unit of this color/period.

Assuming the blades are bad, anyone know if a helical head is available for this unit?

Any thoughts on that price? Good, bad, so so?

Thanks in advance for the input

I paid 700$ for mine (fairly new and we’ll taken care of) which was a bit on the high side but it’s the only 8’ I could find for less than 1000$. 500$ sounds about right. I think blue is the old jet color. Im fairly confident a helical head is offered.

KBrown, I think this answers your question about spiral cutter head availability.

I believe this is nearly identical to my 2001 8” GeeTech made in Taiwan jointer. Most 8” jointers in my area go for $600+. So $500 is not a steal, but tis a good deal if beds are coplanar, motor is 100%, etc.
