I’m tuning all my planes and right now I’m working on my Stanley #90. This the smallest of their shoulder planes. I’ve watched a good shoulder plane tuning video on FWW by Chris Gochnour and it is all straight forward. BUT, I’m worried about the sole since it is coated with nickel like the rest of the plane. This is a sweetheart era plane and really don’t want to degrade it but I feel it needs lapped just as any other plane. The one in the FWW video looks like a 93 but there is no mention about the finish in the video. Should I be concerned about taking he nickel off the sole? -- Jeff, St. Paul, MN |
