Topic tags/keywords: planes woodworking newbie

Hello everybody. Tried searching but didn’t know what to search :)
I’m newbie here and newbie in woodworking. I’m from Macedonia.
A friend today gave me a plane. I remember I have seen plane like this somewhere but can’t remember where.

Here are the pictures

The bottom:

Another thing is that the sides of the blade are not perpendicular. Here is the picture:

The blade

Is the plane blade sharpened wrong?
Any advice on how to tune and use this plane?

Very nice. This is a rabbet plane similar to a Stanley #78. It appears it may be missing a fence.

Info on tuning can be found here

I cleaned an old one up a while back. Info is posted in my blog

Thank you for the info. As I can see from the plane, it never have been used.
But I can still use it, right?

Absolutely. Sharpen it up and put it to use.

Thank you WayneC.
The manual says that I have to recreate the edge of the blade(it has to be straight).

Being my first plane ever, I’ll take care for it.

a1Jim, I’m not a collector. I was just asking if it is usable without the fence ….

And being a beginner, there will be lot’s of stupid question coming out of me and not being that good in English, they will sound even more stupid :)
