Well, I finally spent my money. Ebates had 4% cash back, along with my 5% cash back on Discover, I spent the $597 and bought the saw! About time, I already bought the dado blade and a ridge carbide full kerf blade.
Began the set up. Legs went on fine, the plates / braces for the legs not so much. The two shorter ones (now they use phillips head self taping) fit perfectly, the two longer ones are not quite long enough, need to be redrilled. Got it rolled into the garage. Couple days later pulled the plastic off to clean the top, RUST! It had stained the plastic in several spots, not much coating of anything on the cast iron. Scrubbed the rust spots, pitted.
Contacted Delta, they said return it and get another one. Of course I got rid of the two huge hunks of styrofoam already ( I should have waited). Loaded it with all its bits into the trailer and back to Lowes.
Lowes does not do simple exchanges, it is a return and sale. Normally not an issue, but I would have lost the Ebates 4%. Not the clerks problem, but I needed a manager. Manager came, I explained about the 4%, he said, OK, I will take 5% off the sale of the replacement. Outstanding! They brought me out my new saw, and took my partially assembled saw.
If the rust that had happened was due to my neglect (which will probably happen at some future point) I could live with it ( it was not much, several patchy spots over several square inches) – just did not want to start out that way! Lowes was wonderful.
Have not started the set up on the new one yet (nor have I opened it to look at the top – they are in the box upside down). Sunday maybe.

Perhaps you should have checked the new saw top while at Loew’s just a thought.

You will really enjoy it; I’ve had several different TS and this is my favorite by far. Still have a lot to learn

Wep,

Do you know what the factory warranty on that saw is? Is it 5 year? I’m just curious.

We thought about checking the top in the store, but decided, given the packaging it would be a bit of a pain, to then have to button it to go home again.
Yes, it has a 5 year warranty.

Were the bolts on the legs and short braces still loose when you tried to put in bolts for long brace? If left loose, they give you some wiggle room.

Bummer on the rust. Mine was rust free new but has some spots already from use (and dummy me setting a glass on water on it ARRGGGHHHH ).

Congrats on the saw! You’re going to be very happy with it. Hopefully this assembly goes a little better.

I think I had snugged them up, I will take your advice and leave everything looser. Thanks.
