Topic tags/keywords: lathe turning

A friend of mine was given this lathe a couple of years ago from a guy who used it once. The bowl he was trying to turn is still on it. My friend never used it, so he gave it to me this week.

It’s a Delta 46-701

He also gave me the mobile stand and about $250 worth of turning tools.

So I guess I scored this week. Now I need to learn how to use it.

If any of you have this lathe, maybe give me your impression of it.

Thanks,
Troy

Just so you know….....THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LATHE!!!!
Wait until you get the sharpening stuff, the finishing stuff, the stuff that fits the other stuff, the stuff polisher.
Then, and only then, will you understand the true meaning of FREE.
All kidding aside, enjoy the lathe, and be careful.
Bill

That is an upgraded version of the old four speed Delta lathe that was usually called a “school lathe”.

Fairly rugged and should be fine for someone starting out.

But Bill is right. I’m not even usually a lathe guy, and my Powermatic takes up less room than all the tools, attachments, sharpening systems and other stuff I needed to complete my “lathe”.

Well we all heard this before, what turns around … is a lathe!

Nice freebe indeed! Looks almost unused, because, as you said it was unused.

Just curious though, if it isn’t new and wasn’t really used, what is it?
