A few years ago I was reading S.L.A. Marshall’s Men Against Fire, a book that addresses, among other things, training infantry. One of the lines that has stuck with me is that “more than life itself, we value the approval of our peers.”

I’ve taken that advice to suggest that I’ll be happiest if I surround myself with peers I respect and admire, and work to impress them.
