Hi,

I am new to this site and to woodworking. I’ve built a few book shelves and closet organizers, but nothing serious. My source for lumber has been HD/Lowe’s up to this point. There is a Woodcraft in town, but their lumber selection isn’t much. I have called a few places, but they are wholesalers so they only sell in large quantities. I want to obtain species like cherry, white oak, red oak, etc. The local HD/Lowe’s only carry pine, oak, and poplar.

For those of you who live in the Sacramento, CA, where do you go to buy your lumber? Is there a place that sell to woodworkers (wood hacker in my case)?

If there is none, then mail order is my only option. Any recommendation?

Thanks!

I have had good results with these guys. They are roughly highway 50 and sunrise blvd.

I have used Hughes before. Good selection of woods in varying thicknesses. Good quality and friendly service. I have heard of Aura which is in Rancho as well but have never used them. Woodcraft usually carries 4/4 stuff which is fine. Definitely needs to be planed/jointed. HD in Rancho has maple as well but it is priced pretty steeply.
