Topic tags/keywords: lacquer elias stain spray finish finishing

Well guys… I’m not really sure what else to try and I need help. I am doing a kitchen for a friend and to save time we ended up buying the doors, drawers, and door fronts from Elias WW. My thought being I would make the boxes and face frames and purchase the matching stain from Elias for the face frames. Come to find out, the stain they send is a catalyzed lacquer base stain. This is something I have NEVER worked with and as you can imagine I am having a terrible time trying to match these beautifully finished doors that Elias made. I have been doing my best to research but there is not much that has helped me so far. I am spraying this stain from HVLP with inline water separator but it is coming out the wrong color and I am getting a lot of blushing. I now know my humidity in WI is not helping me but today is going to be very nice weather for lacquer (80 degrees, 55% humidity) and I would like to try to finish these face frames today and tomorrow. Can anyone lend some help?? Thanks guys.

Using a retarder will help with the blushing. It slows the drying time which will help allow the moisture to escape.
Color is gonna be a trial and error.
