I went to the Woodworking show last March. I bought a set of router guide bushings. They were brass and looked like a decent set. I did not have a use for them yet. I was working my way up to a plunge router. So the set sat in a drawer for 6 months.

Well today I bought a DeWalt 611 with a plunge base. Opened it up and read, (yes I read the directions) the owner’s manual. Then I took it to the workshop to play with the guide bushings. The bushings fit perfectly, but the locking ring is the wrong thread size. It came with 2 locking rings, I believe they are 32 tpi. The bushings are 20 tpi. This is as close as I can measure with a ruler and steam coming out of my ears. Tomorrow I’ll stop by Rockler to see if I can get just a locking ring or maybe I’ll be springing for another whole set.

I never thought to try screwing the pieces together when I bought them. Oh well, buyer beware.

BJ

Hope you didn’t sink too much money into them. Go get a cheap set from HF. Maybe the locking rings in it will work with your other set as well. Never could figure out why they give you two locking rings.

Cheers,
Brad

+1

I bought the HF set on sale for $10 or so.

Works perfectly.

I found the brass locking rings type were a bit off center regardless of how well I aligned them, one bump and they were off again or vibrated loose whilst the machine was in use.

So I opted for some metal ones held in with rare earth magnets.

Try finding just the locking nuts they usually come in a pack of two so if you loose one you have a spare .

You need that one ring to rule them all. ;)

I’m not a big HF fan, but their set is really about as good as any…and less than the price of just the locking rings I’d bet.

I’ll second the nomination of the HF bushing set. It’s a bushing with no moving parts and no real precision required. Thus, a perfect candidate for something to purchase at Harbor Freight.

I have the HF bushing set. One odd thing is that all the bushings are different lengths. To use one with my dovetail jig I had to cut it shorter with a hacksaw. No problem, just don’t know why they are made that way.

I think it was the 2nd from the left in the bottom row. The bushing has to be shorter than the thickness of the guide plate on the dovetail jig.

Looks exactly the same as the set I have, same bushing length issues as well, same corrective action!

Found a matching ring at Rockler. All is good. My anger dissipated with 12 oz of barley therapy.
