turns out one of my logs is walnut.
i thought it was cherry.
few weeks back i took delivery on a load of logs, had to take the whole load
to get the wood and the price i wanted.
there were 2 cherry buts about 46 and 50 inch diameter.
cherry is great but i am using walnut for most of my project.
so when my saw guy called me this morning and said that but is walnut
and has alot of figure and i might want to cut it different
i said hell yes thanks for the call.
nobody else appricated my excitement so i thought i would post it here.

lol my wife said thats nice, did you make coffee yet???

fyi the logs have been down awhile and are very muddy.
usually i can tell the difference.

When you get the wood back how about posting some pictures? That would be nice to see.

I can well understand where you are coming from about being surprised that there was a walnut log in the mix. I posted this blog yesterday and when I bought the slabs at the auction they were auctioned as walnut. The logs were covered with dirt and dust from being stored for 20 years (again according to the auctioneer) so I was surprised when I unloaded them at home and took a block plane to one of the logs and found that they were cherry.

the farmer that cuts my lumber is 35 mins away from my house.
and once its cut it will be stacked so there wont be any photos for awhile.
my backs acting up so any thing i can sub-out i am doing.
ie cutting, planning, drying, the only part i am doing is some sanding and
only about 1000ft of my wood is ready for use the rest will take awhile.
i have 2200 ft floors, 2400 ft trim, 11 doors and 35 windows.
so it will be spring before this is done b/c i also work full time.

Have your say...
