Topic tags/keywords: bandsaw used advice

I am getting ready to buy a used bandsaw. I am fairly new to the world of woodworking but have been lurking around this site for awhile. I did some searching but haven’t seen much in the realm of pointers from the experts on what to check out when buying used tools. The posting online shows a very clean saw and a fair number of blades to go with it. I am interested in any advice/pointers you would have when looking at used equipment.

The number one test for any and all tools is to turn them on and do some test cuts. That sounds dumb, but honestly that is a great test. Listen for any bad bearing noises, look for wobbles, see how stable the blade looks. There are millions of tips out there and they can get very specific. But my two cents is try out and the smoother it works, the better. Wobbles, shakes, funky noises are all not good signs.

When I look for tools online used I always see what other reviews or people have said online about that same machine. Especially if it isn’t a brand you have not heard of. I always do tons of research on tools before I buy one. This does help me. Good luck

Thanks for the reply’s! I was able to score a 14” Delta band saw for $185. It had a blown tire but the replacement came the next day sent by the seller to my house. I have used it a few times just “puttering” around in the garage and I absolutely love it. An older gentleman was selling due to health reasons so I am glad we could help each other out.
