Topic tags/keywords: question

I was just trying to set up my Jet mortiser with a small chisel and found it difficult to align the chisel face to be parallel to the fence. It is not as difficult with a large chisel. Is there a simple technique or is it just trial and error?

Any thoughts?

I usually install the chisel and lower it to almost touch the table. Then, slide the fence out to touch the chisel. Rotate the chisel until it touches the fence across the entire width of the chisel.

I do as Lew stated. It works quite well.
