Topic tags/keywords: cherry walnut oak

I went out to the saw mill about an hour from my house Monday morning to pick up a few slabs for a customer and also some more cutting board material for some samples I am making. It turns out the sawyer is adding a new building onto his lot and was dreading moving all of the material from one of his pole sheds he has in its place. Everything is this shed moves slow because its off cuts of 6” and under. It’s been perfect for me since I just got a new cutting board, serving tray, and butcher block contract with a local company. I didn’t remember to snap a picture of the offcut shed, but I am posting pictures of the one next to it. They’re the same size. The offcut piles come to around my knees for almost the entire shed and are all over 8’ long with most in the 12’+ range. 90% walnut with some cherry and oak piles mixed in. We were talking about how long it would take for me to work through these piles and how I wished I could just buy it all to avoid the 2 hour round trip out there every few weeks. Apparently the thought of moving all of this and rebuilding the pole shed was enough for him to want to move it quick. He offered me the entire lot for $100 if I load it. DEAL!!!!! I’m headed down Sunday with two trucks to load it all up. I’ll be working with this material until at least summer of next year. Now if I could only find a deal like that on some walnut table top slabs.

Haha, unfortunately for you it is all perfectly kiln dried and even if it isn’t straight its being cut into small pieces for cutting boards. Anything 4” and wider I’m putting off to the side to try and build a few tables. I’m pretty sure the main pile I’ve been looking through for a while is almost 200 bf and that’s not even a quarter of the whole lot. I honestly have a feeling I’m going to be selling some of this off pretty cheap just to make room.

Haha, nope, I think I’m good. The mother in law tends to stay away from our house.
