Topic tags/keywords: mahogany finishing

I’m attempting to replace the cross on the orb of this religious piece. It’s like a grey wash. I believe the wood is red Meranti (Philippine mahogany).

Anyone have any ideas to try?

-- Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, cut it with an axe.
