Topic tags/keywords: sharpening worksharp

I was working on some chisels last night and I could not get a nice square leading edge. I loosened the bevel adjustment lever screw and moved the lever up and down, but never could get the edge to square to the sides. Even when I came close through trial and error, I could not sneak up on it with smaller and smaller adjustments in the direction I was moving. I have the blade guide fairly tight, enough for the chisel to still move, but not wobble on the machine. Anything I could be missing? I want to resolve this before I get to my better tools. Thanks in advance.

My WorkSharp was just a tad out of adjustment when I took it out of the box, and like you, I had a dickens of time getting set so the ‘Sharpening Port’ was parallel to the wheel. Any adjustment I made in the skew was either not enough or way too much.

I had a local machine shop lop off a couple of pieces of aluminum (2” wide x 1/4” thick), making sure the ends were 90-degrees square. It cost me a couple of dollars, but the softer, thicker aluminum made it easier to gradually dial-in the skew setting without messing up my chisels.

I have had the WorkSharp for close to year now, and though I have used it quite a bit, have never had to revisit the skew settings.

In addition to their user manual, they have a PDF on their website ( by Jerry Work that explains in more detail the setup and use of the machine. That being said, their documentaiton doesn’t really cover this skew adjustment issue very well.

Had the same problem and returned it. The replacement was fine.
