How many of us have signs in the shop? You know, either ones for humor or manufacturers old signs. I have a wooden sign, it belonged to an old friend of mine and hung outside his shop for 50 years. It is over 18 feet in length and is made of a single board of cypress. It was hand painted by a man who used to go from shop to shop in the 30’s seeking work making signs. In those days the shop would have the big sign on the building and also smaller signs they would take to job sites. This particular sign painter rode a bicycle, and had a violin case strapped to the frame, inside the case he kept brushes and some jars of paint. This sign was outside for all that time through hurricanes and blizzards, and today looks as fresh as when it was painted. So, what kind of signs are in your shop? Have fun, make some dust…

I have a couple … one says “Will Work For Wood”.

My favorite hangs by the door to the shop:

I remember the first used Unisaw I bought. The guy that was selling it, was showing it to me, he inadvertently put his coffee cup on the top, my reaction, “hey, get that #@$% off of there…he snatched it right up and apologized, then I realized I hadn’t bought it yet…lol

A sign outside our library, I haven’t made one for the shed yet.

I have a picture of a hand with a couple of recently missing fingers, (still swollen with stitches) eye level above my router table.

I’ve got several in my shop. Two of my favorites are “those who think they know everything annoy those of us that do,” & the other fav I have is “attitude is everything…. pick one.” I also have one that says “tool rules: don’t look at my tools, don’t touch my tools, & do not ask to borrow my tools.”

I am kind of goofy for signs, I wanted my shop to be entertaining and kind of like an Applebee’s.

Hey Bear, like the one about trespassers, lol. I used to have a bumper sticker that read, “I BRAKE FOR HALLUCINATIONS!” Now I’m old enough to plan my own surprise parties…

My sign is on the outside of the door to my turning room. It say’s,”My Barn, My Rules”. It doesn’t mean much as I’m the only one working in it, plus the door is usually open and the sign can’t be seen…... Jerry (in Tucson).
