The economy in Eastern Canada is in rough shape right now, by Eastern I am refering to the Atlantic Provinces. Upper Canada(Toronto, Ottawa, that area) is doing better and there would likely be more job opportunities in the Ontario region. Alberta and British Columbia are still where the jobs are concentrated there fore more people with some disposable income to spend on luxury items such as custom crafted wood products. In short I would concentrate my search in those more prosporus areas. In my home town we have a couple of smaller scale cabinet shops that are currently laying off employees due to the seasonal down turn. However if you want to contact them here are a couple of direct links. http://sticksandstonesfab.com/index.php The second site I tried to post didn’t work, but the company name is “Classis Woodworking” they are located at

Before finding potential employers, I’d suggest first reading the the Canada Immigration website thoroughly. You cannot simply fly in to Canada and go looking for work, and you will not be allowed to work in Canada without first being somehow sponsored through one of several programs. Visit this link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp This is the government website and it explains in detail what to expect, and how to proceed with an application. There may be an option in that site that works for you, best of luck. Sometimes Canada will expedite a request from a non-citizen if you have a specific or unique skill of which there is a shortage in the current labor supply, but there are also lots of foreign-born doctors, professors and engineers who drive taxis here, too, so be sure and do your research!
