I decided to see what back up a commenter had when he was critical of a fellow woodworker – I clicked on his projects button – ZERO projects!!!!
I was intrigued, so started clicking on several more and guess what? Many people who have have a lot to say, have nothing to show for their comments.
Maybe it should be a requirement, that to list a comment on the forum, you have a minimum of five projects posted BEFORE you are allowed to post a comment

Maybe that is the reason I don’t accept most comments or ‘how-to-do-it’ professed within this site.

Ehh. Some people are very opinionated unfortunately. I just harass them when they get out of line.

I don’t know enough to have much of an opinion. I just listen to what you all have to say and give it a go. You have reminded me though that I am waaaay behind on project posts.

Should I leave now?

I’m basically computer illiterate and quit asking my daughter to help me. She just gasps, huffs and goes out of her way to make me feel stupid. That is until I have to fix something of hers, then I’m the most gifted genius.

I always have good things to say on point out about the projects and learn a lot from all Contributors However, I have no camera, and am blind in one eye so photos are out of my league. Sorry I can’t show off my work, though I am proud of the things I’ve produced.

Why won’t you post any projects?

An interesting observation,
most members joining LJs are genuine Wood workers, however the spammers that join get the focus on them when they become active.
Usually identified by:-
No location details or non ww related babble,
No workshop,
No projects and
No constructive blogs.

Then there are the fishy ones and other sponges just lurking around but they are OK…

Using the above criteria you are quite within your membership responsibilities to flag them for attention.

I’ll confess, I have no projects posted here.
I’ve been a member for 1968 days, thats 5.39 years.
Lets see now. During that time I have been rehired by a former employer, and had to work mostly out of the country in places like Nicaragua and Mexico and then got laid off because of the obama democrats apparent love of the recession and their constant policy of trying to kill any sign of business recovery.
Then there was the episode of my wife getting cancer that kept us on the road for treatments for a couple years.
Had to sell the farm and move to town. Then I got rehired again by a different former employer and then 2 years later they ran out of work for me and I took 6 months to find another job. Had to completely change my career field to even get that. So, I guess I’ve been a little too busy to do many projects.

I did build a work bench, a new shop, remodeled a house, repurposed some of the cabinets I took out of the house and adapted them to the new shop, built a neat little mobile base for my drill press, converted a drill press into a mortiseing machine, built a cabinet base for my lathe, built a workbench for mechanical jobs in the garden shed, built 3/4 of a stair to access the office I built in the top of my shop. I just don’t think of these things as projects, although they look better than some of the things I see posted as projects. Then there are other projects posted that I would be ashamed to put my work next to.

Maybe I just need to take some pictures of some of my stuff and stick it in here. On the other hand, I only offer advise on things where people are asking for help and I have experience that I know I can provide that help. Frankly, it’s no skin off my ass whether anyone takes my advise or not.

Not sure I’ll be here much longer any way so I may not get to those project pictures. This site is not the same as it was when I joined. Used to be interesting with some lively converations going on.

Just to make sure you know the possible consequences of this, take a look at this gentleman (I use the word with the greatest care and respect)...

Not a single project.
No workshop
No location details.
Only blogs that link to other sites (other members seem to get a lot of gyp for this)

If we had had the proposed “rule” by the OP, our site would be missing Charles’ 1294 posts, many of which I have read, and almost all of which were, are, and will in the future be, really pretty useful to us woodworkers.

Then there’s this guy, who seems to be something of favourite on the site and, when he talks, people listen…

Only 2 projects, so, according to the original post, he wouldn’t yet qualify to make comments – 6551 to date.

This idea comes up once in a while – thankfully I don’t think there’s a hope in hell “management” will implement it.
It’s the internet – a comment is a comment – you read it – you determine, based on your own experience and, if you so desire, a certain amount of investigation into who the poster was, the validity or otherwise of said comment.

I personally would rather have 10 “unsupported” comments (which isn’t to say they aren’t excellent, valid, pertinent etc etc) in order not to miss that one “vital” comment.

Comments are similar to the reviews you find in places like Amazon, ebay , you have to develop a knack to separate the ones that carries some weight from others that are total nonsense.

I don’t have any projects listed yet either. I am fairly new to the site. I usually never have negative things to say, there is enough of that in the world, but if someone wants advice or constructive criticism I might help there. Sorry to hear you had issue with a goofball running his mouth. I will try to get some projects loaded so people can get some ideas. I would love to walk people through some of my projects so they can try them. Here is what I am working on right now. I have an order of chairs going to Houston TX for a fancy dinner movie theater. I built a prototype from cedar and then I am making 8 chairs and 8 stools. Hope that gives me a little wiggle room to mouth off ;)

I often will check to see the type of projects or comments a person makes.

I really appreciate a nice comment by someone who has nice projects posted.

The other comments I just take with a grain of salt.

Posting projects is over rated. 2 – 3 comments out of 5 or 600 viewers….Not worth the trouble.
When you can hardly get a howdy duty, why go through the trouble.
I’m done posting the, Obviously, not interesting enough, projects.
