I am interested in making some boxes. Can you folks recommend some books on box making that you have found helpful? Thanks in advance for your time.

Doug Stowe has a couple of excellent books out on box making, both published by Taunton I would start there.

Here is a listing of Doug Stow’s books on box making. Another author to consider, if you are interested in band saw boxes, is Lois Ventura.

What about the search in LJ. “boxes”
There are tonnes of blogs and photo’s and guidance and tutorials and recomendations and helpfull hints that no book can show you…. If it could it would be 4’ thick.

I have a book called box by box from Popular Woodworking. Jim Stack is the author. It has about 20 very nice plans in it.

I learned a lot from Box-Making Basics by David M. Freedman. When I am looking for such a book, I will often check it out from the library first to be sure that it is what I want before I buy it.

These are the box-making references that I have purchased and found to be helpful:

Doug Stowe: – Basic Box Making (book) – Basic Box Making (DVD) – Simply Beautiful Boxes (book) – Creating Beautiful Boxes with Inlay Techniques (book) – Taunton’s Complete Illustrated Guide to Box Making (book)

David M. Freedman – Box Making Basics (book)

Jim Stack – Box by Box (book)

I always check www.half.com for books. I can often get the book I want, in new or slightly used condition, for less than half of what I would pay anywhere else.
