Topic tags/keywords: plane

Those of you who know me know that I’m quite fond of hand tools, and that I just got finished moving out of my home of 13 years and in with the in-laws to take care of them. So I’m out in my father in law’s pole building today where all of my belongings are being stored while I build the new shop, and this is what I came across.. :-)

The No. 49 is something I’ve been intending to buy for awhile now. I’ve never seen a No. 20 before today…

Wow! That’s a cool find. You may find other treasures around there. It’ll take some time to get situated and settled.

The #20 is a slick tool.
can be a booger to tune up. Because it is rare, and nobody is making any knock-offs many folks go with a spokeshave, (cause that is all there is out there). Only the hard core hand toolies even look for a circular plane.

neat stuff – good luck with the shop, and with the folks.

Nice find, Jerry! I’d say that falls under the heading of ‘Cast your bread upon the water, after many days it will come back to you.’ Hope the rest of your adventure goes as well.

Hey Roger! Thanks for checking in..today I found several Disston hand saws in a remote corner of the shop, right next to the SOUTH BEND MACHINE LATHE ( OMG what’s next ?! ) badly in need of sharpening.

Thanks for this input. I am researching every place I can to find out how to care for the No. 20. You are right, they are as rare as hens teeth, and a really unique and useful tool.

I know, I know, right?! This place is like a museum. Just discovered a pristine 300 lb anvil under a lean-to on the back side of the house…

Tim, thanks for looking in and commenting. I think it’s pretty much in new shape except for a little weathering.

Thanks for looking in and commenting Candy. We do have a journey ahead, it’s been a week now at the new place, and there be dragons here… but we will make it work.
