This thing http://www.grizzly.com/products/Dust-Hood-For-G0505-Planer/H7516 is apparently the hardest part in the world to make buy ship somethin because i’ve been trying to order it through grizzly all summer and its backordered. Can you guys see any reason why this couldn’t be shop built from wood? It seems like something that could afford to be pretty lax on tolerances as long as the fit was decent. I’d be connecting it to a 2hp grizzly dust collector. I’ve been avoiding using my planer because it makes such a mess and need to get started on some stuff.

As of now the Grizzly site shows it in stock and you can get in in a few days. But yeah, looks like you could make something like that without much trouble.

Sears shows they have it, but probably don’t because it shows sold by Grizzly.

Have you called Grizzly. They may have a screwed up number which is bouncing it back.

I already made one from scrap wood and a left over piece of shopvac 2.5” extension wand
I’ll take a picture of it and post it when I get home from work.
It was easy to make, and works like a champ.

Yep mine is still back ordered as well.

Here is my scrap made dust hood.
Take note on one of the pics you will see two nuts placed over the hold down bolts. This is to provide spacing, nothing more.
They’re placed loose at the moment, I’ll probably hot glue them in.

Couldn’t you just make that using a PVC pipe and some heavy duty Styrofoam? Use a jigsaw to cut the opening and then glue/epoxy the top piece, use some foam around the opening like the item and that should be it, right?
