Hi everyone, now that summer is behind us you will be hearing more from me and my newbie questions. At present I finishing a butcher block top on my main workbench. I’m going to need to plane it some and I was wondering if any of you have ever designed something or know of something that will help me get it level and not create a problem worse then I have now. Many thanks Johnt -- jft |

A number 7 or 8 Jointer plane followed by a #4 smoothing plane? : ^ ) Or a better one -- We must guard our enthusiasm as we would our life - James Krenov |

Hi Wayne, thanks for the links, I do have some great hand planers but I was hoping to use my new power hand planer. I remember reading somewhere that there was a trick to doing a bench top like mine and not get any waves or valleys. But I guess my memory is slipping. Anyhow thanks again, Johnt -- jft |

I’ve seen router based jigs. I would think the length of a jointer plane would be just the ticket for avoiding the waves or valleys. How fine a shaving can you produce with the power planer? -- We must guard our enthusiasm as we would our life - James Krenov |

Hi WayneC, I think I’ll go with the router by making a jig for it. It’s just one of those things that I could have sworn that I saw a jig for a electric plane. Thanks for your input I realy appreciate it everyone. Johnt -- jft |
