I love walnut. I have used it on a couple of recent projects and I love everything about this wood. I like the smell, the way it machines, sands, finishes and mostly I love the grain. I answered a craigslist ad for hardwood a few weeks ago and came across this:

Almost 16” wide!!

The board on the left is 8/4 as well as the 2 on the far right. Everything else is 4/4 and 6 1/2 to 8 feet long. Not bad for $130. I see a couple of really nice tables in my near future

Nice find! I love walnut as well. There’s nothing that comes to life like a piece of walnut when you wipe a little oil on it.

Nice find!! The only thing that comes close to walnut is tiger strip maple, but walnut wins for most applications except Kentuck Rifle stocks:-))

Ken, that is gorgeous wood. Walnut is such an easy wood to machine and all it needs is a clear coat to look beautiful.

Nice find.

I just recently had a CL Walnut score as well. There is one other advantage to walnut that I believe you missed, the chips laying on the floor look just like chocolate flakes. Ummmm chocolate.

Congrats!

If you love walnut, you should check out this site—www.gobywalnut.com. I’ve toured the place, and he’s got some amazing walnut (and more). If I remember correctly, he said that he has ~half a million board feet of walnut onsite! Need a 4” x 36” x 20’ slab? He’s probably got it…
