Good morning, I got several large pecan logs from a pecan orchard that I shoot crows in. The orchard is 1 mile long. It has been abandoned. There are lots of dead standing trees. That is where I got the logs. I cut one up last evening and put it in my lathe. Peeled off some bark, and discovered it is loaded with termites. My shop is above my garage,,,,all wood with a wood floor. How can I kill the termites in the logs that R both outside,,,,,,and the ones I have moved upstairs to the shop?

Heat or chemicals. Heat sterilization is typically done in a kiln. Chemically can be performed by tenting air tight with plastic and a bug bomb .

Rich, my experience with termites (the Kerrville variety anyway) is that they want wet wood. I doubt if they will start attacking your shop floor since it is very dried in.

Thanks John, I am going to go to Terminex this morning. I have a yearly contract with them for termites we had several years ago. Hope they can advise me.

Good idea. You can micro wave smaller pieces (that will fit) which kills all bugs.
