Are any of the commercial guys noticing an upswing in orders the last couple of weeks ? In addition to the usual, there have been more remodel work jobs coming in and for the longest time – no new construction . In the last 24 hours , two new construction possibilities all at once . Are things starting to loosen up ? -- rob |

One aspect of my new business has picked up but beings it has only been running for less than a year I can not say if it is a seasonal trend, or a general improvement. I picked up 4 new large construction projects whilst in Thailand. -- The wood slayer - Yes dear I did plan to make more kindling out of that wood I have been drying for the last year - honest! |

Things seem to be picking up here too, Rob. Of course we’re both in Socal so maybe it’s a regional thing. Bothus -- Professional kitchen designer, amature woodworker. |

Luckily we have a lot of wood to knock on, but October is the best month I had in the last 12 months here in Dallas Texas. -- Thuan |

Where I’m located is a resort area with mostly retirement and vacation homes. No new construction, some large cabinet shops folding, some laying off their prople, builders folding. I talked to one of my lumber and plywood vendors today and they’ve laid off most of their people and said they’re expecting to possibly close after the first of the year if things don’t pick-up. Our weekly paper has an average of five pages of foreclosures in it now for several months. I talked to a friend of mine that also has a cabinet shop near me and he’s laying of his people tomorrow. We’re busy and look to be busy all the way into the first of they year if everything holds together for us but we’ve not built a kitchen in a year. I think if we can get through this winter then hopefully things will get going again for all of us but I doubt very seriously it’ll ever again be here like two years ago when we had to turn down work. I’m glad I down sized a few years back. Prayer does work..ask everyone n my business…no lay offs, not missed a paycheck, bills getting paid…and more work to do. I’m seeing more and more web sites in our trades going out…very sad. I hope everyone of you will recover from this and will grow even more stronger after this recession is over. -- "Give The Gift of Life, Adopt A Child" |
