I’m thinking there’s no harm in asking…

I’ve been making clothespins using the plans and the gracious help of LJ Farmbeet.
Click for details
I’ve been buying the stainless steel springs from him and would be happy to continue doing so however the exchange rate between the Cdn and US dollar is driving my costs way up. And then when I bring the springs across the border, I get hit with a 15% sales tax. So a $160.00 order of springs is now costing me almost $240.00

I’ve contacted a few Canadian companies I’ve found online, and I either get no response, or a ‘thanks but we can’t offer that service’ response.

I’m looking for a Canadian spring manufacturer who could do a small production run of these springs.

Anybody out there know someone who knows someone??

Thanks

Sandra, I can’t help. I do hope you can find a Canadian supplier that can help. The exchange rate and taxes are really taking a toll! Your pins are wonderful!

Maybe list above the ones that couldn’t help? Save someone else the time?

Sorry I cant help with an answer, but I CAN agree with you about shipping between the US and Canada. I’ve mailed things that I thought would only be a few bucks, but ended up costing $30 or $40 for a package that was LESS than one pound. ... YIKES !

Yes Joe, it’s extremely expensive. Many people I know (myself included) have packages sent to a US address and then drive over to pick them up. Depending on what it is, you still pay taxes and or duty at the border, but it’s usually still cheaper than shipping. Crazy really.

Hi Rob – I’ve been contacting some Ontario companies online, but if you happen to be attending the wedding and there are machinist/production types, this is what I’m looking for…

Thanks!

Are you looking for functionality or appearance?

For functionality only I would use O-Rings and machine the wood to match!

For appearance if you can’t find a Canadian source … perhaps China very inexpensive per piece cost at $0.003 each but no minimum mentioned.

Or these stainless steel version also from China but they look like what you want at about $0.08 each and 100 piece minimum it not too bad.

I do not have any idea of delivery or how Canada would handle this import.

There are more choices from China on this Alibaba site.

If buying from China goes against your better judgement then please ignore my suggestions.

Thanks old novice. I would prefer a North American company. The US springs that I’m getting are fantastic. I don’t mind the price of the springs, it’s the cross border tax/duty exchange rate that it becoming prohibitive.

I actually got a response from two Ontario companies asking for specs, so hopefully at least one of them will get back to me with a quote.

Hopefully one of them Canuckian companies can help.
