I decided to order a BS from Grizzly. I know, not what the title says but bear with me for a second. After hearing good things about Grizzly and drooling over the catalog for a while I decided to start small and see how things went. I oredered the above mentioned sander. I really needed one. I get it 3 days later. Shipping was fast, cool. I get it all put together and throw the switch and the motor hums but doesn’t spin. GRRR. I call Grizzly and they tell me go ahead and remove the drive belt so I do. Still nothing. Call them back, three days later UPS comes for it and away it goes back to Grizzly. Now you would thing they would send me a new one. You would be wrong. Instead they put it in the shop to be gone over and then will let me know the fate of my sander. Several days later I get a call, it’s on the way back. When I inquired to what was wrong I was told the belt tention was too tight. ? Um, the belt wasn’t on it are you sure. Answer: Well I didn’t actually work on it, but the tech will get back to you. The next day I get 2 calls while I’m in town. One says sander is on the way back, the second says it was the belt tention. Now I’m not pleased with that answer but it’s on it’s way back so whatever. I’m hanging around waiting on this thing for four days. On day 5 I get a call, what do you want us to do with your sander? It’s supposed to be here. I was about to call you back because it hasn’t shown up. Um, it’s sitting here in front of me waiting for you to tell us what to do. Finally after a song and dance I tell them to credit my card and I’ll re-order it so I get a different one since they still can’t tell me what was wrong. Today I get the new sander. Plug it in and it spins up. Cool, I start putting it together and notice the disc plate isn’t even close to straight. It’s so bad the table has absolutly no way it was going to go on. Call Grizzly back. Now they’re going to send me a third as soon as they get notified this one in picked up from UPS. They’re supposed to inspect it first to make sure it’s up to snuff. I also asked them to inspect the BS I ordered to make sure it’s ok as once I lug it down to the basement shop I don’t want to have to try to get it back up the stairs. We’ll see how it goes. Not knocking Grizzly, just sharing my story.

I figured I would update this to let everyone know how things turned out. TERRIBLE is an understatement! After 5-6 weeks of screwing around and 3 sanders, I gave up. The last one they sent me was supposed to be inspected before shipping it. It arrived with the disc part out of alignment and the table missing. When I called I was told they talked to the guy that checked it and he said he put everything back in the box. When I told the woman I had no reason to lie and nothing to gain she just said they would take it back and credit my card. So now I have 6” discs and 4×36” belts that I purchased and nothing to put them on. If I buy (and that’s a big “if” ) from Grizzly again, it will only be something I heard a lot of praise over. On the up side. The G0555x BS I bought from them is about together and it looks to be a solid unit so far. I don’t quite have it running yet so I’ll save final judgement until I can actually use it. Just need to level the table and set the guide bearings.

Have your say...
