My fellow lumberjocks,

I might possibly have a chance at buying a North State 20” 5hp planer for $750. It is on CL and I have sent an email to the owner. If he responds that it is still available and offers it to me, then I likely will consider it seriously. I responded to him almost immediately after it was posted so I think I have a good chance.

Anyone know the retail value for a 20” north state. I believe it has to retail for not less then 2000 and likely it is more that that. It sounds like a great deal but I would like to be sure of the deal before making the purchase. We currently barely get by using a DW 735. We build a lot of doors though and a larger 20” planer is in need in our shop. Any input would be great.

Thanks,

Jerry

never heard of it myself, but I think it is comparable to grizzly, jet and others… Just not sure on this one. Hate spending 750 on something I am not sure on. Course at 900 lbs and 5 hp 25 amp motor, I believe it warrents a serious look for the price. I am sure something had to be built strong in order to create 900 lbs. My 26” drum sander I think is around 600 lbs and it is very substantial, and that would pale in comparison to this planer in the weight catergory. I will let you all know if this turns into a gloat or not.

Northstate is I believe just another import brand like Grizzly, Jet, York, Bridgewood, etc.

They are located in Charlotte, NC.

Stuff is actually pretty good. I have a friend who bought his widebelt from them, and he has been quite happy with the service and support.

Have your say...
