Topic tags/keywords: tools that brought 100 percent satisfaction I found a neat post over at the Sawmillcreek woodworking forum where a poster asked about everyone’s tools that they were 100% satisfied with or better… I liked that it was a more positive thread and I counted up all the votes in the 60 replies that followed. My question for the LJs is: What tools are you 100% satisfied with or better? I’m talking about tools that do what they’re supposed to do and do it well. In the words of Here’s the top 11 from SMC if you’re interested: Here’s the SMC thread if you want to see it: I look forward to what you guys think, and be warned… I’m a writer for ToolCrib.com and I may be linking to this post from our blog :) -- Editor, www.ToolCrib.com |

Add a vote for the Kreg Pocket Hole Jig. I’d put that right at the top of my list as well. I love my Woodworker's 6 inch Dial Caliper from Highland Hardware. -- Tom, Surfside Beach, SC - Romans 8:28 |

My Nova DVRXP exceeded my expectations I have a lengthy list of tools that didn’t cut the mustard too, but this bunch is the cream of the crop in my shop. -- You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation. (Plato) |

Add my new Fein Multimaster sander/scraper/saw oscillating wonder tool. Just removed petrified window glazing (2” offset scraper blade), flaking paint (60 grit carbide rasp) from 6 48×20 windows. Finish sanded them (triangular sanding head and 80 grit velcro backed paper. We primed and glazed them tonight by the light of a Coleman duel fuel gas lantern (another classic tool). The wife had nothing for praise for the thing and no evil eye for dropping 300 bucks and change for a sander. Easily saved $500 remodeling dollars. This tool rocks! Now could somebody lift my glass of Tang™ to my mouth…I can’t seem to raise my arms. Douglas “Ladder-Calves” Bordner -- "Bordnerizing" perfectly good lumber for over a decade. |

Definite vote for the Kreg -- I've cut that board three times and it's still too short! |

I agree with the DeWalt router votes. I just got the Starrett protractor and Kreg jigs, so I need to use them more first, but would probably add them as well. I would also add the Wixley angle gauge to the list. I can set up the table saw or miter saw to 45 degree angles or other settings and be sure of the cut. -- Bill, Turlock California, http://www.brookswoodworks.com |

I have an old Stanley block plane, I love it. It’s all worn and shiney from my hand, makes quick work of lots of stuff. I’ve got a mixed array of other old planes that are a joy to use. I’ve got a Dewalt 12 inch miter saw that I use the heck out of, and a Dewalt driver- love’em. -- As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17) † |

My Craftsman 10” table saw has far exceeded my expectations. I’m getting good performance from a very inexpensive machine. Sketchup has saved me from hours of error making; far exceeding my expectations. Triton 2 1/4 hp router…I expected it to be fun to use but, man, not this much fun. A small unknown brand block plane that I use just about everywhere. Once I tuned it up and sharpened the blade it continues to impress me. I am still amazed how useful the Internet (esp LJs and the FWW web page) have been to learn about what and how to do things as well as what not to do. Exceeded expectations. I bought a Mastercraft recip saw from Canadian Tire for ~$90… to remove some badly placed shrubs and trees from our new lot. I expected it to die after the brutal pounding in dirt and muck I gave it removing those shrubs and trees…but it took it and asked for more. I am still using it so I figured I’ve easily recovered the cost of it in avoiding paying a landscaping company to remove the trees/shrubs for me. -- ...it's rennovation time!!! |

All of my Bosch tools – 1590EVS Jigsaw, 1617PK Router (with fixed & plunge bases), 3727 ROS – meet or exceed my expectations. My Craftsman Jobsite Table Saw 21830, while not as accurate as a cabinet ts, works very well for me. In fact, the only tool that I feel I wasted my money on is a power planer I purchased from the Handyman Club – probably the nut behind the wheel, but I just cannot seem to get a smooth edge with this tool. The tool that has probably done the most to improve my woodworking is the Incra 6” T-Rule – so much easier to measure when you can see the graduations! Jim |
